Texas Jury Finds For Garlock, Says Products Not Defective
February 20, 2004
DALLAS - A Texas jury concluded on Feb. 6 that asbestos in gaskets and packing materials manufactured by Garlock Sealing Technologies was not the cause of a 22-year navy veteran's mesothelioma. Davis v. Garlock Sealing Technologies, No. 2002-28497 (Tex. Dist. Ct., Dallas Cty.,113th Dist.).
The 12-person Dallas jury was unanimous in finding that Garlock products were not defective. Garlock was the only defendant at the two-week trial, but Judge Patricia Hancock allowed jurors to apportion liability elsewhere if they wished. One juror named non-party Johns-Manville as the cause of Victor Davis' illness, according to sources.
