1 ARTICLE: "Concurrent Malignant Mesothelioma of the Pleura and Hepatocellular Carcinoma in the Same Patient: A Report of Five Cases"

SUMMARY: Five cases where malignant mesothelioma of the pleura and hepatocellular (liver cell) carcinoma co-exist in the same patient. The subjects ranged in age from 58 to 86 years old, and had histories of asbestos exposure. Four suffered from cirrhosis, and two showed signs of Hepatitis C infection. According to the researchers, the association between the two conditions may not be a "fortuitous coincidence." Rather, asbestos could favor carcinogenesis by inducing immune …
