Halliburton Has Busy May With Settlements, SEC Investigation

Halliburton Co., the Texas oilfield services firm named in nearly 300,000 pending asbestos lawsuits, made a series of moves in May, culminating with the announcement that the company is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Halliburton, which was once led by Vice President Dick Cheney, recently settled nearly three dozen asbestos claims in New York state court, and said it has again received extension of a temporary restraining order staying some 200,000 asbestos claims pending against the company's subsidiary, Dresser Industries, Inc.
