Jury Awards $3.5 Million to Paper Mill Worker Exposed to Dryer Felt

BALTIMORE - Jurors in Maryland have awarded a former paper mill worker $3.5 million for his exposure to an asbestos-containing dryer felt that allegedly caused him to develop mesothelioma. Saville v. Scapa, Inc., No. n/a (Md. Cir. Ct., Baltimore Cty.).
On Oct. 8, the Baltimore City Circuit Court jury awarded $3 million in compensatory damages to Carl Saville and $500,000 in loss of consortium damages to Saville's wife after determining that defendant Scapa, Inc.'s dryer felt product was the cause of Saville's illness.
Sources said it was the first time a jury has found the Georgia-based Scapa responsible for injuries …
