Former Laundry Worker Awarded $1.1 Million for Asbestosis

SAN FRANCISCO -A jury in California has awarded more than $1 million to a man who developed asbestosis after working for nearly 35 years in the commercial laundry business. Medley v. American Laundry Machinery, Inc., No. 13920 (Calif. Super. Ct., San Francisco Cty.).
The jury, which after a six-week trial handed down its verdict May 19 in the San Francisco Superior Court, found American Laundry Machinery, Inc., 20 percent responsible for the injuries suffered by Walter Medley. It was the first such verdict ever rendered against the company and its predecessors, a source said.
