BALTIMORE - A Maryland woman's mesothelioma was not caused by exposure to crocidolite asbestos contained in filters of the cigarettes she smoked for several years in the 1950s, a federal jury has found. Sachs, et al. v. Lorillard Tobacco Co., No. 01-0152 (D. Md.).
According to a verdict handed up April 29 in Maryland's U.S. District Court, Lorillard Tobacco Company should not be held liable for the diseases suffered by Dalinda Badenhoop, a former smoker of Lorillard's Kent brand cigarettes. The trial was held over 10 days before U.S. District Court Judge J. Frederick Motz.
