Closing Arguments Underway in Alameda County Asbestos Cosmetic Talcum Powder Trial

OAKLAND, Calif. –– Parties in an asbestos cosmetic talcum powder case are currently delivering closing arguments in what is believed to be the first asbestos-related cosmetic talcum powder case to proceed to trial against Johnson & Johnson in Alameda County.

The parties began their summations on March 11 in the California Superior Court for Alameda County before Judge Brad Seligman.

In a first amended complaint filed in Dec. 2017, the plaintiffs alleged that Teresa Elizabeth Leavitt’s mesothelioma was caused by exposure to asbestos-containing products. The plaintiffs specifically said that Leavitt was exposed to asbestos in talc powder products for approximately …
