Calif. Jury Awards $8.45 Million in Asbestos Case Against Weil-McLain; Assesses Defendant 60 Percent Liability

LOS ANGELES –– A California jury has awarded $8.45 million at the conclusion of an asbestos trial against Weil-McLain, finding the defendant 60 percent liable for causing the former pipefitter and plumber’s mesothelioma.

Sources told HarrisMartin that the California Superior Court for Los Angeles County jury reached the verdict on Aug. 28. It is believed to be the largest verdict entered against the boiler defendant.

Trial began in the case on July 23 and lasted nine weeks, sources told HarrisMartin. The jury deliberated for four hours before reaching its verdict. Hon. C. Edward Simpson presided over the trial.
