Calif. Jury Awards $1.1 Million at Conclusion of Pipefitter’s Asbestos Case; Allocates 20 Percent Liability to Remaining Defendant

SAN FRANCISCO –– A California jury has awarded $1.1 million to the family of a former pipefitter, accepting claims that the decedent’s mesothelioma was caused by exposure to asbestos fibers in cement pipes sold by P.E. O’Hair.

The California Superior Court for Alameda County reached the verdict on Aug. 14. Hon. Robert McGuiness presided over the four-and-a-half-week trial and jurors deliberated for two days before reaching their verdict, sources said.

Jurors allocated 20 percent liability to P.E. O’Hair, the lone remaining defendant at the time of the verdict. The jury allocated the majority of liability –– 40 percent –– …
