Jury Returns $250 Million Asbestos Verdict; Parties Settle

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - U.S. Steel announced that it reached a settlement with a former steel worker with mesothelioma who was awarded $250 million recently for his exposure to asbestos at a steel plant in Indiana. Whittington v. John Crane Corp., et al., No. n/a (Ill. Cir. Ct., Madison Cty.).
Terms of the settlement, which U.S. Steel said was 'substantially less' than the compensatory damage award that a Madison County Circuit jury handed up on March 28, were not disclosed.
