1 TITLE: "Sarcomatoid Mesothelioma and its Histological Mimics: A Comparative Immunohistochemical Study"

SUMMARY: An investigation of the utility of diagnostic immunohistochemistry for distinguishing between sarcomatoid mesothelioma and similar, high-grade sarcoma and pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma. The researchers stained 20 mesotheliomas and compared the immunophenotypic profiles with two dozen high-grade sarcomas, and about a dozen pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinomas and 16 epithelioid mesotheliomas. The results indicated that immunohistochemistry plays a more limited role in the differential diagnosis of sarcomatoid tumors compared with epithelioid tumors.
