Jury Awards $53 Million for Alleged Exposure to Brake Product

NEW YORK - A jury in New York has awarded $53.5 million to the family of a man who died of mesothelioma after he was allegedly exposed to asbestos-containing friction products. Brown v. ACandS, et al., No. 00120595 (N.Y. Sup. Ct., New York Cty.).
In what is believed to be one of the biggest single-plaintiff compensatory awards in the history of asbestos litigation, the New York Supreme Court jury found several companies liable for the asbestos-related injury and death of Stephen Brown. Only Honeywell International, however, was left in the case when the trial concluded.
