Missouri Court of Appeals Affirms $10.8 Million Judgment Against Crane Co. in Asbestos Case

ST. LOUIS –– A Missouri appellate court has affirmed a nearly $11 million judgment entered against Crane Co. in an asbestos case, concluding in part that there was sufficient evidence for a jury to find that the defendant’s valves, “at minimum, ‘directly contributed’ to the plaintiff’s mesothelioma.”

In the May 2 opinion, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, further found that the issue of punitive damages was correctly submitted to the jury, since the plaintiffs had submitted evidence that Crane Co.’s actions giving rise to the underlying claims “were committed with conscious disregard or complete indifference.”
