Calif. Jury Reaches Defense Verdict for Talc Defendants, Rejects Claims that Products Were Contaminated with Asbestos

LOS ANGELES –– A California jury has reached a defense verdict in favor of two talc defendants, rejecting claims that a former hairdresser developed mesothelioma as a result of exposure to talcum powder products contaminated with asbestos.

The California Superior Court for Los Angeles County jury reached the verdict on Oct. 21. Judge Anthony J. Mohr presided over the trial.

Plaintiffs Linda and Michael Colpitts contended that Linda Colpitts developed pleural mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos-containing talcum powder products, including Clubman brand barber talc. Colpitts worked as a hairdresser and cosmetologist, the plaintiffs said.
