Jurors Award $5.2 Million in Case Involving Asbestos Exposure at Iranian Refinery; Parties Reach Settlement Prior to Punitive Damage Award

SANTA MONICA, Calif. –– A California jury awarded more than $5 million in damages at the conclusion of the first phase of an asbestos trial involving exposure at an Iranian oil refinery, but the parties reached a settlement agreement before jurors could weigh in on a punitive damage amount, sources told HarrisMartin Publishing.

The California Superior Court for Los Angeles County jury reached its verdict on Feb. 11, sources said. Fluor Corp. and two of its subsidiaries were the lone remaining defendants at the time of the verdict and were assessed a total of 40 percent liability, sources said.
