Fla. Jury Awards More than $17 Million in Asbestos Case; Allocates 55 Percent Liability to Georgia-Pacific

MIAMI –– A Florida jury has awarded more than $17 million in a case involving exposure to Georgia-Pacific’s joint compound products in Saudi Arabia, sources told HarrisMartin.
The Aug. 13 verdict was reached by the Florida 11th Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County. Georgia-Pacific and Union Carbide were the lone remaining defendants at the time of the verdict, sources said.
Judge William Thomas presided over the trial.
Plaintiffs Roy L. and Suzanne Taylor asserted the claims, contending that Roy Taylor’s exposure to Georgia-Pacific’s joint compound products while working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, caused him to develop mesothelioma.
