Maryland Court Declines to Exercise Supplemental Jurisdiction over Asbestos Claims

BALTIMORE – A Maryland federal court has relinquished jurisdiction over an asbestos case, noting that the claims involving a federal question have since been dismissed.

In the July 27 order, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland declined to exercise supplemental jurisdiction over the case and rejected the defendant’s position that the court could retain the case based on cross-claims.

Plaintiff Dennis C. Citrano filed the claims, contending that he developed mesothelioma after he came into contact with asbestos-containing products during his employment as an electrician in the 1960s and 1970s.
