Calif. Jury Awards Nearly $600,000 in Brake Case; Remaining Defendant Hennessy Expected to Be Responsible for $150,000




LOS ANGELES –– A California jury has awarded nearly $600,000 in a mesothelioma case involving asbestos-containing brakes, but the lone remaining defendant at the time of the verdict, Hennessey Industries, is only expected to be responsible for $150,000, after set-offs and allocation is calculated, sources said.

The California Superior Court for Los Angeles County jury reached the verdict on Aug. 3 after two-and-a-half days of deliberations, sources added.

The jury awarded $300,000 in non-economic damages and $285,000 in economic damages, sources said. Hennessy was apportioned 50 percent liability; it is estimated that the defendant will be responsible for $150,000 …
