Calif. Court Issues Order on Maritime Law, Causation in Asbestos Trial

SAN FRANCISCO –– A California federal court has issued an order regarding the applicability of maritime law to asbestos claims, finding it part that the plaintiffs cannot recover damages for a loss of consortium claim since the exposed was a seaman at the time of his alleged injury.

In the two-page May 8 order, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California also found that the upcoming trial in the asbestos case would be governed by Cabasug v. Crane Co. (989 F. Supp. 2d 1027, D. Hawaii 2013), “for exactly the reasons provided by Judge Seabright in that …
