CHICAGO –– An Illinois federal court jury has reached a defense verdict in favor of ExxonMobil Oil Corp. and Owens-Illinois Inc., rejecting the plaintiff’s claims that the synergistic effect of smoking and asbestos exposure caused him to develop lung cancer, sources told HarrisMartin.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois jury reached the verdict on May 1, according to a notice entered on the court’s online docket. The court entered judgment in favor of the defendants the same day, noting the Judge Manish Shah presided over the two-week trial.
