Wash. Jurors Award $3.5 Million to Plaintiffs in Take-Home Asbestos Exposure Suit

SEATTLE –– Jurors in Washington have awarded plaintiffs $3.5 million in a take-home asbestos exposure suit, finding Brand Insulation liable for the decedent’s injuries.
The verdict was reached on April 21 after a two-week trial in the Washington Superior Court for King County and is believed to be the largest in a take-home exposure suit.
The plaintiffs alleged that Barbara Brandes was exposed to asbestos fibers brought home on the work clothing of her father, Raymond Brandes, an employee at an ARCO refinery.
As a result of the exposure, Barbara Brandes developed mesothelioma, the plaintiffs said.
