Senator Introduces Legislation that Would Require Companies to Report Asbestos-Containing Products to EPA Annually




WASHINGTON, D.C. –– U.S. Senator Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) has introduced legislation that would require companies that manufacture or handle asbestos-containing products to annually report information regarding these products to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Sen. Durbin introduced the legislation to the U.S. Senate on March 10. The bill was co-sponsored by Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.).

Called the “Reducing Exposure to Asbestos Database (READ) Act,” the legislation aims to update a 1988 law, which required manufacturers and processors of asbestos-containing material to report details about the products to the EPA.
