Miss. Court Remands Asbestos Drilling Mud Additive Exposure Suit

JACKSON, Miss. –– A Mississippi federal court has remanded a drilling mud additive asbestos exposure suit, finding that the defendant had failed to prove Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) jurisdiction was applicable in the case.

In the Feb. 12 ruling, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi wrote that there was not enough evidence to support the conclusion that the plaintiff would have developed asbestosis from the nine months he spent working offshore.

Wendell Hammond claimed in his lawsuit that he was exposed to asbestos-containing products while employed in the oil industry for nearly 10 years. …
