Upstate New York Jurors Award $10.55 Million in Asbestos-Containing Talc Case

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –– A New York jury has awarded $10.55 million in an asbestos-containing talc case, finding that R.T. Vanderbilt Inc. was liable for the plaintiff’s mesothelioma.
The plaintiffs contended in their complaint that Richard Chisholm worked with asbestos-containing talc while employed at an Ohio ceramics company during his high school summers. The plaintiffs said that Maxfield Ceramics used Vanderbilt talc as one of the raw materials in its production process.
At trial, the plaintiffs presented evidence that Vanderbilt knew that its talc had asbestos in it before Chisholm even came into contact with the product. Still, the plaintiffs …
