N.C. Court Awards Summary Judgment to Valve Defendant in Asbestos Case

GREENSBORO, N.C. –– A North Carolina federal court has awarded summary judgment to valve defendant The William Powell Co., finding that testimony from the decedent’s former co-worker was not enough to establish a causal link.
In the Nov. 7 opinion, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina opined that the plaintiffs had “overstated” the testimony in question.
The plaintiffs asserted the claims on behalf of Ralph Logan, contending that his exposure to a variety of asbestos-containing products during his employment at a Getty Oil refinery for 30 caused him to develop mesothelioma.
