Minn. Jury Returns $4.5 Million Verdict in Power Plant Asbestos Exposure Case




ST. PAUL, Minn. — Jurors have returned a more than $4.5 million verdict in a case filed on behalf of a former insulator diagnosed with mesothelioma 50 years after he was allegedly exposed to asbestos at a Minnesota power plant.

The Ramsey County District Court jury on Oct. 22 found Owens-Illinois 36.5 percent responsible for plaintiff Neil Humphreys’ asbestos-related injury, which the plaintiff blamed on exposure to the company’s Kaylo pipe covering.

Humphreys was employed as an insulator helper during construction of the Taconite Harbor Power Plant in 1957. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2013 and sued numerous defendants, …
