NEW YORK — A jury in New York has awarded $7 million to a former welder who claimed he developed mesothelioma decades after he was exposed to asbestos at a power plant owned by Long Island Lighting Co.

Jurors returned the verdict Sept. 29 in New York County Supreme Court, assigning 100 percent liability for plaintiff Ralph North’s injuries to LILCO successor National Grid Generation LLC.
