$400,000 Awarded to Construction Workers in N.C. Premises Case

SALISBURY, N.C. - Three men who worked for a construction firm that eventually became Fluor Daniel have been awarded $400,000 for asbestos-related injuries they allege occurred during the building and subsequent maintenance of a Hoechst Celanese textile plant in North Carolina. Bell v. Hoechst Celanese, No. n/a (N.C. Super. Ct., Rowan Cty.).
After a month-long trial, a Rowan County Superior Court jury found that Celanese had acted with negligence in exposing the workers to asbestos. The jury also determined that the work the three men performed at the plant was inherently dangerous under North Carolina law.
