N.C. Federal Court Reverses Order Sealing Garlock Documents, Asks Bankruptcy Court to Explain Reasons Behind Decision to Seal

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –– A North Carolina federal court has reversed a bankruptcy court’s refusal to unseal testimony and trial transcripts from Garlock Sealing Technologies’ estimation trial, saying the bankruptcy court should have offered specific findings that supported its reasoning for not making the documents public.

In the July 23 opinion, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina remanded the issue to the bankruptcy court for a determination as to the source of right of access to each previously sealed documents and testimony.
