Asbestos Bankruptcy Court Stays Order Allowing Access to Rule 2019 Filings Pending Appeal

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –– The federal court overseeing Garlock Sealing Technologies’ bankruptcy proceedings has stayed its recent order allowing several defendants access to Rule 2019 filing.

In the May 7 order, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of North Carolina granted the Official Committee of Asbestos Personal Injury Claimants’ motion to stay the order –– entered one-day prior –– pending resolution of “any appeal of that Order.”

The Committee moved to stay the order the same day it was issued, saying that asbestos plaintiffs would be “irreparably” harmed if the order was not stayed.
