Asbestos MDL Court Grants Motions to Dismiss Maritime Ohio Case on Personal Jurisdiction Grounds

PHILADELPHIA –– The court overseeing the federal asbestos multidistrict litigation docket has reinforced its prior decisions dismissing Ohio claims for lack of personal jurisdiction, again ruling that the plaintiffs have not satisfied their burden of proving the state’s long-arm statute applied to their claims.

In the April 4 opinion, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled that the plaintiffs failed to present any evidence supporting their allegation that the long-arm statute applied because the defendants transacted business in Ohio.

The plaintiffs asserted the claims on behalf of Charles Corley, who was allegedly exposed to asbestos. …
