Louisiana Legislation on Venue Procedures for Asbestos and Silica Suits Passes Committee; Heads to State House

BATON ROUGE, La. –– Legislation aimed at altering current laws allowing asbestos and silica plaintiffs to choose the venue in which they file claims has passed the Louisiana Committee on Civil Law and Procedure.
The Committee approved the legislation on April 1 by a 7 to 5 vote. The proposal now heads to Louisiana’s House of Representatives for consideration.
According to published reports, Jeff Arnold (D-New Orleans), John Bel Edwards (D-Amite), Randal Gaines (D-LaPlace), Patrick Jefferson (D-Homer) and Alfred Williams (D-Baton Rouge) all voted against the legislation.
