Wisconsin Senate Passes Asbestos Bankruptcy Trust Disclosure Legislation by Slim Margin




MADISON, Wis. –– Senators in Wisconsin have passed a bill that would require asbestos plaintiffs to disclose claims pending with bankruptcy trusts, or indicate their intention to file claims with personal injury trusts.

The legislators voted in 17-16 in favor of the legislation on March 12 after removing an amendment in an earlier version of the bill that required a six-month delay before a trial could start after a claim was stated.

The legislation is expected to be voted on by the State Assembly on March 20 before it heads to Gov. Scott Walker to be signed into law. …
