President Obama Opposes National Asbestos Bankruptcy Trust Legislation; House Currently Debating Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– President Obama has opposed passage of the Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency (FACT) Act of 2013, saying that the public disclosure of claims filed with asbestos trusts would “threaten asbestos victim’s privacy.”

In a Statement of Administration Policy released Nov. 12, the Executive Office of the President said that the “legislation is based on the false assertion that there is endemic fraud in the asbestos trust system.”

The House of Representatives is currently debating the legislation and is expect to vote on the H.R. 982 later today.
