Summary: A study that assessed airborne fiber exposures from intact asbestos-containing gaskets and packings while activities representative of historical work practices were performed, including flat blade scraping, hand wire brushing, and stem packing removal and replacement. The results for every area and personal sample showed that the 8-hour time-weighted average exposures were well below current OSHA permissible exposure limits, demonstrating a very low rate of fiber exposure from routine activities associated with …
