Ill. Court Affirms Judgment for Owens-Illinois, John Crane; Says Plaintiffs Failed to Establish Frequent and Regular Asbestos Exposure

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –– An Illinois appellate court has affirmed award of summary judgment for asbestos defendants Owens-Illinois (NYSE:OI) and John Crane, finding that the plaintiffs had failed to establish that a former U.S. Navy radioman was exposed to the defendants’ products with the requisite frequency, regularity and proximity.
In the Oct. 10 opinion, the Illinois 4th District Court of Appeals found the evidence presented by the plaintiffs to be “speculative” and “conjectural.”
The claims were filed on behalf of Jerald Bowles, who was allegedly exposed to asbestos-containing products while serving in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years. …
