36-Year Old California Man Awarded $4.5 Million for Childhood Exposure

SAN FRANCISCO - A California man exposed as a child to asbestos while traveling with his parents to build churches has been awarded $4.5 million by a jury in San Francisco. Lee v. Kaiser Gypsum Co., No. 314384 (Calif. Super., San Francisco Cty.).
Roy Duane Lee alleged he was exposed during the 1960s to Kaiser Gypsum Co.'s "K-Spray" acoustic material while his grandfather and parents built the Assembly of God church near Fresno, Calif.
The 36-year-old Lee claimed in a lawsuit filed in 1998 that, as a result of the exposure, he developed peritoneal mesothelioma.
