R.I. Court Denies 4 In Limine Motions in Asbestos Case; Calls for Hearing on Admissibility of Plaintiff Expert Testimony

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –– A Rhode Island trial court has denied four in limine motions filed by Crane Co. in an asbestos case, staying a fifth motion until a pre-trial hearing can be held on the admissibility of the testimony of a plaintiff expert.

In five separate orders issued July 18, the Rhode Island Superior Court denied motions seeking to exclude evidence regarding the defendant’s catalogs, its post-sale duty to warn, and Crane Co.’s involvement with trade associations.

The underlying claims were asserted on behalf of Douglas A. Sweredoski, who was allegedly exposed to asbestos while serving onboard the USS …
