Wisconsin Assembly Passes Bill Requiring Asbestos Plaintiffs to Disclose Trust Details; Legislation Heads to Senate

MADISON, Wis. –– Legislators in Wisconsin have passed a bill that would require asbestos plaintiffs to disclose claims pending with bankruptcy trusts, or indicate their intention to file claims with personal injury trusts.

By a vote of 58 to 39, the Wisconsin Assembly passed Assembly Bill 19 on May 8, after it was read for a third time. The legislation now heads to the Wisconsin’s Senate.

Upon disclosure of the trust information, courts would then be required to stay the proceedings until final executed proof of claims are produced by the plaintiffs, Assembly Bill 19 states.
