N.Y. Federal Jury Awards $3.8 Million to U.S. Air Force Boiler Operator

NEW YORK –– The family of a former boiler operator and repairman at a U.S. Air Force base has been awarded $3.8 million in a case against a defendant that provided the base with asbestos-containing refractory cement and other boiler components.
In the Feb. 1 verdict, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York allocated 60 percent liability to the lone remaining defendant in the case, Cleaver Brooks. In a subsequent order, the District Court entered a judgment of $980,000 against the defendant, capping a portion of the damages in accordance with Kansas law.
