Asbestos Action Involving GE's Turbines Remanded to State Court

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. -- An Illinois District Court has remanded an asbestos lawsuit, finding that General Electric Co. had failed to show that the U.S. Navy had precluded the defendant including warning labels on its asbestos-containing turbines. Adams, et al. v. Armstrong International Inc., No. 11-857 (S.D. Ill.).
In the Jan. 10 opinion, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois rejected General Electric's reliance on a contract from 1946 that outlined the safety standards with which the defendant was to comply with when manufacturing the turbines.
