JACKSON, Miss. -- An asbestos defendant involved in what is believed to be the single largest plaintiff's asbestos verdict in U.S. history has filed a petition with the Mississippi Supreme Court to disqualify the trial judge that presided over the record-breaking award. Union Carbide Corp. v. Thomas Brown Jr., No. 2011-M-00874 (Miss. Ct. App.).
The petition, filed June 22 in the Supreme Court of Mississippi, Court of Appeals, requests the disqualification because the trial judge failed to rule on a similar defense motion to recuse within the required 30 days.
