SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Washington appellate court has affirmed an award of temporary benefits in a case that involved both maritime and non-maritime asbestos exposure. Olsen v. Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, No. 29125-1-III (Wash. Ct. App.).

In the April 26 ruling, the Washington Court of Appeals, Division III, found that the federal remedy outweighed any other benefits the plaintiff could recover.

Elizabeth A. Olsen filed the claims, contending that her husband, Robert E. Olsen, died from injuries he incurred after being exposed to asbestos. Olsen's work as a pipefitter and his service in the U.S. Navy …
