Union Carbide Contests $2.1 Million Verdict Entered Against it in Chrysotile Case

LOS ANGELES -- Union Carbide has moved for a judgment notwithstanding the verdict in a case that ended in a $2.1 million verdict in favor of the plaintiffs last month, arguing that even the plaintiff's medical expert admitted that he did not have evidence linking Calidria asbestos to mesothelioma development. Strickland, et al. v. Advocate Mines Ltd., et al., No. BC379088 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).

However, in an April 11 opposition brief filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the plaintiffs claim that Union Carbide has taken the plaintiffs' expert testimony "out of context."
