Virginia Jury Awards $25 Million in Shipyard Case Against Exxon

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Virginia jurors have awarded $25 million to a former shipyard worker who claimed that work on Exxon ships caused him to develop mesothelioma, sources told HarrisMartin Publishing. Minton v. Exxon, No. CL09-01505F-15(TF) (Va. 7th Jud. Cir. Ct., Newport News).
The 7th Judicial Circuit Court for Newport News jury reached the verdict March 17 after a 12-day trial. Judge Timothy S. Fisher presided over the proceedings, which ended after just over one day of juror deliberations.
