Jurors Award $5 Million in Case Against Special Electric; Reach Defense Verdict for Pep Boys

LOS ANGELES -- A California jury has awarded $5 million in a case alleging various asbestos exposures, finding a supplier of Transite pipe 18 percent liable for the plaintiff's injuries, but entering a defense verdict for Pep Boys, the only other remaining defendant at trial. Webb, et al., v. Special Electric Co., Inc., et al., No. BC436063 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).
The California Superior Court for Los Angeles County jury reached the verdict Feb. 17 after a six-week trial presided over by Judge John Shepard Wiley.
