Court Upholds Ruling that Stripped Halliburton of Coverage for Asbestos Claims

DOVER, Del. - A state Supreme Court has upheld a decision that relieved a former Halliburton Co. insurer of its obligations to cover a portion of the company's asbestos liabilities. Halliburton Co. v. Highlands Insurance Group, et al., No. 156, 2001 (Del. Sup. Ct.).

In a two-page order entered March 13, the Delaware Supreme Court upheld the decision of the New Castle County Chancery Court, which a year earlier found that the spin-off of Highlands Insurance Group from Halliburton resulted in the termination of certain fixed-cost policies issued by the former subsidiary between 1958 and 1986.
