LOS ANGELES –– A California jury has awarded a total of $48 million to a former construction worker who was allegedly exposed to asbestos in a bystander capacity, sources told HarrisMartin. Izell, et al. v. Union Carbide Corp., et al., No. BC469931; LAOSD Asbestos Cases, JCCP Case No. 4674 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).

Los Angeles County Superior Court jurors awarded $30 million at the conclusion of the damages phase of the mesothelioma trial on June 14 and added another $18 million in punitive damages against Union Carbide alone on June 19.
