CertainTeed Assessed 70 Percent Liability in $208 Million Verdict

LOS ANGELES -- A California jury has awarded $208 million in a take-home exposure case, allocating 70 percent liability to CertainTeed, sources have confirmed to HarrisMartin. Evans v. A.W. Chesterton Co., et al., No. BC418867 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).
The verdict, returned April 30 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, includes $200 million in punitive damages, which were only assessed against CertainTeed, according to sources.
The jury awarded $8.8 million in compensatory damages, sources said. The remaining 30 percent liability was allocated to The Department of Water and Power, which reached a resolution with the plaintiff prior to …
