Cedent Sues Westport Insurance for $500,000

BOSTON - A cedent is demanding that Westport Insurance Co. pay nearly $500,000 in reinsurance proceeds for the settlement of underlying asbestos and pollution claims brought against Airco Inc. Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. v. Westport Insurance Co., No. 1:10-cv-10596 (D. Mass.).

In an April 9 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. alleges that Westport has wrongly refused to pay the reinsurance billing.

According to the complaint, between Oct. 1, 1972, and Oct. 1, 1974, Liberty Mutual and its affiliates insured Airco Inc. under certain primary policies for $2 million on …
